Lobster Rolls in Maine

When you vacation in Maine, you must have a lobster roll on your list.  Maine is home to fresh lobster and the lobster roll is a standard.

 

The lobster roll was actually invented in Milford, Connecticut at a place called Perry’s in 1927. It didn’t become a Maine staple until much later (the 1970s).

The “Cull”: Some of the best meat comes from “culls”—lobsters that are missing one claw. They taste exactly the same but are often cheaper for the shacks to buy.

The Season: While you can get them year-round, “New Shell” (soft-shell) season in late summer/early fall is when the meat is at its sweetest and easiest to pick.
